POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s Music Department will hold the annual Idaho Music Educators Association Conference Feb. 11-13 on ISU’s Campus. The conference will feature presentations, rehearsals, exhibits and performances featuring ISU’s music department and students attending the conference.
Idaho State University holds the conference every eight years. School of Performing Arts Director Thom Hasenpflug said because of so many years between ISU’s hosting opportunities, it is important to put on the best possible experience for the students.
“We need to bring our ‘A’ game for this event,” he said. “The conference allows us to have a lot of access to the top music students and directors in the state.”
During the conference, students in band, choir and orchestra will be using various venues on campus to rehearse for their final performance on Saturday night in the Jensen Grand Concert Hall. While students are rehearsing, music directors will participate in conferences from ISU faculty members and engage in exhibits. Seven faculty members will give presentations including Hasenpflug on percussion techniques.
Students attending the conference will also get to see the music department perform at the host night concert on Thursday, Feb. 11. Many ISU groups will play including band, choir and jazz band. The event is free and open to the public.
