Celebrate Idaho State, a CommUniversity event, set Feb. 10; focus is on athletics

POCATELLO – The sixth annual Celebrate Idaho State, a CommUniversity event, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Idaho State University Pond Student Union Building. This year’s event will focus on athletics.

Celebrate Idaho State is sponsored by CommUniversity and is free to the public. Features include food, a coloring contest, an inflatable playground, featured speakers, a pep rally for men’s basketball team and a chance to meet a variety of student athletes.

“This event is a great opportunity for ISU to host the community for an evening of free, family fun. This year, we have a lot of kid-specific giveaways and activities, but there will be something for everyone,” said Allyson Johnson, co-chair of CommUniversity. “You will find this year’s Celebrate Idaho State event much more interactive than in past years.” [Read more…]

‘Latino/a Americans 500 Years’ exhibition at Idaho State University celebrates Latin culture

POCATELLO – The Transition Gallery at Idaho State University will feature the exhibit “Latino/a Americans 500 Years” to celebrate the Latin culture.

The exhibit is part of the year-long grant funded series “Latino Americans: 500 Years of History,” and consists of art depicting evolution of Latino culture. The ISU Department of Art and the Department of Global Studies collaborated on organizing the exhibit. [Read more…]

Idaho State University senior art thesis exhibitions set Jan. 19 – Feb. 5

POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s Department of Art will host senior artists’ thesis exhibitions Jan. 19 through Feb. 5.

The art will be featured in the John B. Davis Gallery and the Compartment Gallery, located on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. The galleries are open Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The featured College of Arts and Letters seniors include Jennifer Anderson, Thomas Stephens and Larry Wilde. [Read more…]

Idaho Museum of Natural History joins Project Feederwatch citizen science program

POCATELLO – The Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University has joined the Project Feederwatch citizen science project and invites the Pocatello community to participate.

Project Feederwatch, managed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, aims to help scientists track population and abundance trends in birds during winter. Every year from November to April, bird watchers of all skill levels are invited to sign up and monitor their bird feeders as part of the program. These citizen scientists record information about the kinds of birds visit their feeders and submit it to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. [Read more…]

POCATELLO – Slithering in at 48 feet long and weighing an estimated one-and-a-half tons, a realistic replica of the world’s largest snake will be on exhibit at Idaho Museum of Natural history (IMNH) at Idaho State University (ISU) starting March 19.

Sixty million years ago, following the extinction of dinosaurs, a colossal snake related to modern boa constrictors thrived in South America’s hot tropical climate. [Read more…]

Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University announces holiday schedule

POCATELLO – Looking for a family-friendly, educational activity during the holidays?

The Idaho Museum of Natural History will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1, but otherwise will have its regular hours during the holiday season.

The museum’s regular hours are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and closed Mondays.

New art exhibit at the ISU Eli M. Oboler Library features photography by Linda Groom

POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s Eli M. Oboler Library will present an exhibit of fine art photographic prints by photographer Linda Groom through Feb. 29, with an opening reception set Jan. 20 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., in the first floor art exhibit area.

The reception is free and open to the public and offers participants the opportunity to meet the artist, visit with others who appreciate art, enjoy some light refreshment, and view the varied and beautiful images. [Read more…]

Idaho Museum of Natural History to present ‘A Very Geeky XMAS’ for December After Dark on Dec. 11

POCATELLO — The Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University will hold its December After Dark event “A Very Geeky XMAS” on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to wear ugly sweaters for a chance to win a prize for the ugliest sweater, and join the museum for a Star Wars-themed holiday party. Guests can choose to make Star Wars-themed ornaments and/or snowflakes. Snacks and a no host bar will be available. The event will also feature a Star Wars movie to be announced. [Read more…]
