Irish Musician Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhride featured March 5 at College Market

POCATELLO – Misneach, Idaho State University’s student Irish club, will host Seacht ain na Gaeilge (Irish language week) with singer Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhride at the College Market on Saturday, March 5, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Doimnic mac giolla bhride is an internationally acclaimed Irish musician and traditional sean-nos singer from Donegal, Ireland. This is his first American tour of the West.

Tickets are $5 at the door. The Butcher’s Block will be serving alcoholic beverages for this event, so please bring your I.D.

POCATELLO — Idaho State University’s “A Season of Note” series will present “Barrage 8” March 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stephens Performing Arts Center in the Jensen Grand Hall.

POCATELLO — “An Enchanted Evening – Broadway Hits and More” is the theme of the Idaho State-Civic Symphony Association’s concert and fundraiser at the Idaho State University Stephens Performing Arts Center on March 11.

Come be part of Native American culture through ISU Native American Heritage Night March 5

POCATELLO— The Idaho State University Native American Heritage Night set 6 to 9 p.m. March 5 at the Pond Student Union provides guests with an opportunity to share Native American Culture and be a part of something special.

“Heritage night is one of our big events; it’s the opportunity to share our culture and share our dances,” said Layha Spoonhunter, president and reigning royalty of ISU Native Americans United. “We want to welcome all students, faculty, staff and public to come witness a culture that is vibrant and exciting.”

There will be authentic dancers, a Native American buffet, a special presentation by Native American youth and different cultural presentations. The keynote speaker is Mary Kim Titla, executive director at Unity Incorporated.
Native American Heritage Night is a fundraiser for the ISU spring pow-wow at Reed Gym and is sponsored by the ISU Native Americans United Club.

Tickets will be $10 for the public, $8 for ISU students and elders, and $9 for ISU faculty and staff.

HALO presents “Caminando la Tierra Mexicana” Feb. 27; event features food, entertainment, dancing

POCATELLO — Idaho State University’s Hispanic Awareness Leadership Organization will host “Caminando la Tierra Mexicana (Walking through the Mexican Land)” Feb. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom.

Prices for tickets purchased in advance are $5 for ISU students, $7 for ISU faculty and staff and $8 for the general public. Tickets purchased at the door will be $8 for all guests.

“Caminando la Tierra Mexicana” features Mexican food, cultural entertainment and dancing.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at tables located near the food court of the Pond Student Union and on the main floor of Rendezvous Complex.

ISU Adam Merrill’s heartfelt journey to finding passion for piano leads him to be one of the best piano players in the state

POCATELLO – As a child, Idaho State University music student was very active and into sports. At the age of 9, everything changed – Merrill’s family discovered he had numerous birth defects in his heart. Merrill had to have six heart surgeries, and was crushed when he found out he couldn’t follow his dreams of playing sports.

“I was very lost for the majority of the following decade,” Merrill said. “I felt that classical music was really the only music that had the capacity to express all of the hardships that weighed on my soul, and I loved listening to it.”

One day, at age 12, Merrill had the urge to sit down at the piano and teach himself how to play. After three years, he decided to get more serious and sought out lessons at the university level and found ISU’s own piano professor Kori Bond. [Read more…]

Country music star Aaron Tippin promises a fun country night at Idaho State University

POCATELLO — Aaron Tippin will appear with Terri Clark Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Idaho State University Stephens Performing Arts Center.

“Come have a good time. I try to bring a good time with me and share it with everybody,” Tippin said. “I’m always looking for something cool, interesting, wild and different to happen at the show.”

Country star Terri Clark to perform solo acoustic show Feb. 25 at Idaho State University

POCATELLO — Terri Clark will put on a show with Aaron Tippin’ at Idaho State University’s Stephens Performing Arts Center Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

“I hope people leave having the greatest time they have ever had that’s my goal,” Clark said. “I want people to forget their cares and worries of the world for a short time.”

The show is sure to be unique for Clark fans because she will be performing solo without the band.

“If anybody has seen me play with the band and they enjoyed that then they are going to get a completely different show when I am by myself,” Clark said. “It’s very personable lots of talking, lots of joking, sometimes I will get the audience involved you’re going to hear a lot of familiar songs with a completely different experience.” [Read more…]
