POCATELLO – The Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University is hosting a Masquerade Ball benefit Feb.20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Juniper Hills Country Club.

The masquerade ball is a fundraising event to benefit the museum’s exhibits and programming. The evening will include dining, dancing, live and silent auctions and raffle prizes. Idaho State University National Girls and Women in Sports Day events set Feb. 19-20

POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Reed Gymnasium.

This is the 17th year ISU has hosted this event.

ISU’s celebration will include free admission to the ISU Women’s Basketball game versus Southern Utah University for the first 300 kindergarten through fifth-grade girls and boys. Reduced admission of $3 is available for accompanying adults. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 300 kids, compliments of Portneuf Medical Center.

At the game’s halftime, the 2016 Trailblazer Award will be presented to Pauline Thiros, ISU associate vice president of development who has served in the Foundation Office since 1997. [Read more…]

Idaho State University Nepalese Night 2016 set Feb. 20

POCATELLO – The Idaho State University Nepalese Night will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in the Pond Student Union Ballroom.

The 10th annual celebration aims to provide insight into Nepalese culture. Attendees can expect to see dance and musical performances, and different traditions representing each region of the country. [Read more…]

Idaho State University art department to host third annual Art a la Carte event on Feb. 18

POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s Department of Art will hold its third annual Art a la Carte event on Feb. 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. to help raise money for scholarships and visiting artists. The event includes a chili feed and silent art auction.

The main event’s silent auction will allow participants to bid on art made by students, professors and alumni. Items being auctioned off include jewelry, prints, sculptures, paintings and embroidery. Examples include art professors Scott Evans’ print collages, Naomi Adams’ natural silk dye silk scarves and Laura Ahola-Young’s paintings. [Read more…]

Idaho State University Rupp Debate Society to host public debate about immigration reform

POCATELLO — The Idaho State University James M. and Sharon E. Rupp Debate Society will host a public debate on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. about immigration reform. The audience will be given time to question the debaters as part of the debate and asked to vote for the winner.

The debate will be in the North Fork of the Salmon River Suites on the third floor of the Pond Student Union on the ISU campus. Members of the ISU debate team will engage the topic: “The United States should deport nearly all illegal immigrants.” [Read more…]

ISU College of Science and Engineering to host Bengal STEM Day on Feb. 18

POCATELLO – The College of Science and Engineering at Idaho State University will host nearly 700 junior high and high school students for Bengal STEM Day on Thursday, Feb. 18. This new event merges the college’s National Engineers Week Student Competitions and the Idaho Science and Engineering Festival.

Students will bring original designs to compete in six different competitions: a tennis ball catapult, a Popsicle bridge design, an electroscope, a chemistry relay, an egg rocket challenge and a Rube Goldberg machine. The events allow for friendly competition among the students while providing an opportunity to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. [Read more…]

Idaho State University professors to present community with projects surrounding Latino Americans and 500 years of history

POCATELLO – Idaho State University professors Carmen Febles and Cathleen Tarp received a $10,000 grant funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association titled “Latino Americans: 500 Years of History” in the fall of 2015.

The grant provides funding for a year of programming focused on Latino American history and culture stemming from the six-episode PBS series entitled “Latino Americans” that debuted in 2013. [Read more…]

POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s Dani Moffit athletic training program director and assistant professor for sports science and physical education will be a featured speaker, delivering the talk “Injury Prevention for the Weekend Warrior,” at 6 p.m. at the sixth annual Celebrate Idaho State.
