Highlights of Idaho State University’s mid-November Opera Week include a performance by Idaho Opera and ISU hosting the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions.
On Nov. 14, Idaho State University’s Season of Note concert series will host Opera Idaho’s production of Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” at Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Idaho State University Facilities Services, Associated Students of Idaho State University (ASISU), and the Green Up club are teaming up to implement 350 new recycle bins, one in every classroom, through a $1,100 grant from the Coca-Cola Company.
Three years ago, ISU Facilities Services began the recycling program. The program was run by custodians who took on the extra role of gathering recyclable materials daily and sorting it weekly. In addition, facilities services purchased two John Deere Gators which run on biodiesel made from recycled cooking oil collected from the College of Technology kitchen, Garrison Hall and the Pond Student Union. Idaho State University seniors Matea Ivanovic and Kendra Doty debated for approximately 25 hours in a total of 10 debates to win the Gonzaga University Jesuit Debates.
Ivanovic and Doty, who are members of the James M. and Sharon E. Rupp Debate Society, participated in six preliminary debates over two days to qualify for the single elimination bracket. During the preliminary debates, their record was 5-1. Overall, their record was 9-1. Ivanovic won the first place individual speaker award based on judge ratings of her performance during each of the six preliminary debates. [Read more…]
