‘The Cyanide Canary’ is ISU Reading Project book; focuses on Soda Springs environmental crime

The Cyanide CanaryThe 2006-07 Idaho State University Reading Project focuses on the book "The Cyanide Canary," which was written about an industrial accident that occurred in Soda Springs.

Events will culminate when the book's authors, Robert Dugoni and Joseph Hilldorfer, present the discussion "Idaho Justice: The Cyanide Canary" at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 as a keynote presentation for the ISU Reading Project and the Idaho Conference on Health Care.The ISU Reading Project consists of a series of events beginning on Oct. 12 that encourage reading a common book to stimulate discussions among members of the ISU and southeast Idaho general communities.

ISU to host LUNAFEST film festival Oct. 27-28

Idaho State University Anderson Gender Resource Center will host LUNAFEST at 7 p.m. in the ISU Pond Student Union Building Bengal Theatre on Oct. 27 and 28. Tickets are $2 for students and $3 for the public.

LUNAFEST is a national traveling festival of short films by, for and about women. The films are pulled from top festivals across the nation. The proceeds will be divided with 15 percent going to the Breast Cancer Fund and 85 percent going to the Gender Resource Center.

Arts and Sciences Research Day set Oct. 20

The Idaho State University College of Arts and Sciences will hold its second annual Arts and Sciences Research Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 in Goranson Hall located on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building on the ISU Pocatello campus.

The event has been designed to provide faculty of the other ISU colleges, as well as the public, a better idea of the variety of research and creative activity being undertaken by faculty within the College of Arts and Science. That college has teamed with the Office of Research to create an interesting and informative free event featuring six brief faculty presentations. [Read more…]

Marching Band Invitational at Holt Arena on Oct. 28

ISU Marching Band

The Idaho State University Bengal Marching Band will again host the ISU Marching Band Invitational, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 in Holt Arena in Pocatello.

ISU Marching Band More than 20 bands from Idaho, Utah, Montana and Nevada will compete for the top prizes in their respective divisions.

Tickets for this event may be purchased at the door on the day of the competition at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for students.

ISU gains national recognition for teaching nutrition to seniors

Generosity by an Idaho State University student group in Pocatello has earned the group recognition at a national convention in Texas in late September.

Members of ISU's Beta Rho Chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron (Phi U), a national honor society for family and consumer sciences, will be honored with a second place Certificate of Merit Award at the society's national meeting this fall in Grapevine, Texas. The ISU group will be acknowledged for its program "The Path to Nutrition and Health," which was designed for senior citizens in the Pocatello area. The ISU chapter of Phi U is made up of dietetic and family and consumer sciences majors. [Read more…]
